I have two ideas for a story I have to write for my creative writing class. I am starting to think both might be overused plots though.
Both stories are ghost stories.
One story has a rebel/punk-like character who breaks into an old, burnt down house. He takes an item from that house and later on, a ghost from that house possessives his friend, who has almost an exact opposite personality from him yet both are still very close to each other, for taking the item.
The other story is a group of teenagers who go into an old mansion. There is a legend that the Earl who formerly owned the house some hundred years ago was a murderer. One of the teenagers looks almost exactly like the Earl and is possessed by the ghost of the Earl and then tries to kill his friends.
Both stories are meant to be horror/thrillers, but neither actually have any death and both stories have a lot of focus on the relationships between the characters, but I don't know if that is enough to make the stories more unique, or if those ideas are overused as well. I don't know if I should use one of those ideas or just think of something completely.
